Type SL Persian Man
Type SL Persian Man. A very rare puppet, only one other known to exist which is from a later period.(The provenance of this puppet, gives authenticity to the later one, should there have ever been any doubt)
The original owner of this puppet had two of her old puppets stored in her loft. (The other puppet is The Huntsman) She used to play with a big collection of them and put on shows.
I am using the title given by her as "Persian Man".
He needs some attention and has been restrung for images back to his original control. The hands should be on a slightly shorter thread and the leg string is a little slack.
He is dirty all over and needs cleaning.
There is rust to the screw eyes.
He has large painted lead hands with rusted screw eyes at the wrists. One lower arm with hand came detached when I was moving him around but I was able to reattach it to the screw eye which is slightly too open and it has stayed easily.
He has a large wooden carved head with bulbous cheeks! The carved wooden nose sadly has one 'nostril' missing.
He has a felt beard which feels hard, when I looked I saw it has a metal structure underneath making it feel that way and stay where it is. It is loose at one side as seen in images.
The stuffed turban is dirty but in fair condition, nailed to the head.
The flimsy material cloak is faded but no real damage that I can see. The stitching is red and scruffy in places but seems to all be original. The shirt under the cloak has multiple holes in the cuff area and the stitching is loose on the right side, it is gathered on left side. He wears a belt which looks fine.
The flimsy material trousers are faded and creased and one hem is loose as seen. There is also a hole in the back of one leg.
He has wooden legs and the usual standard feet.
