Type SM White Faced Clown, one of the very rarest earliest SM characters that Pelham made for a short run. To add to the rarity is the amazing condition of the puppet and from original owner adds to the value.

He has drop lead hands making him date to late 40's.

The head is large and heavy, he has a wonderful painted face.

The jaw is much longer than the usual early SM characters, see side view images.

He even retains the original felt tongue.

The costume is very good with no damage, even the ruff is perfect, often this fabric will have ageing.

He has very good thick cream fur hair, there is a gap at the back but I really think this is how he was made and it has not been lost, the hide has been cut to fit nicely. There is no sign in paintwork of it missing.

Red thick felt hat is good, only a tiny bit of ageing.

He is strung on a wooden control which is the same as some early ones with no Pelham markings.

He was stored in his original shoe bag which the children wewre all encouraged to make by Bob Pelham, certainly all the ones I have had from original owners that have been stored within these bags seem to have survived ageing and moth etc much better than ones not in bags.

Box is correct with no end stamp. Shelf worn.
