Type SM Schoolmaster, this is a very rare 20" size puppet. I have never seen one of this character before. He is a magnificent puppet with wooden legs and very big composition hands. He is in good condition, he carries a long bamboo cane and wears his oversized mortar board hat with tassel. He wears thick grey flannel trousers with a matching jacket and black cape. He even has a small hanky in his pocket. The clothes have a few minor signs of ageing. There are some pin prick holes in his cloak as shown and a wear line in one knee of the trousers, presumably due to the sharp edge of the wooden knee wearing through the material. The felt tongue is moth damaged. There is a pin prick hole in the shirt under his grey flannel jacket. He has good sheepskin fur hair and very good face paint. His mouth opens well. A photo with the usual standard size Schoolmaster is for scale. The extra large brown box stamped Schoolmaster one end is in shelf worn aged condition, as seen by images.
