TYPE SL TOAD 'SPECIAL'
£0.00
Type SL Toad 'Special' made by the Pelham Puppet company for two brothers in 1950's who had a small collection of Pelham Puppets at the time. Toad is in excellent condition with no damage I can see. Toad is amazingly dressed with lovely detail, tiny black bead 'buttons' and a good tartan costume, the same material as was used for another puppet occasionally seen, Sarah Swede. He has the same head mould that was used for the Alice in Wonderland character the Type SL Frog Butler. This mould looks to have been increased in size and painted with multi green colour splodges. The suit consists of a jacket and breeches, (cropped trousers) and felt covered legs. The body is stuffed with a thick felt bodice underneath. He wears a white collar and a little green felt bow tie. The hat is made from a different material and one head string goes through the hat possibly to help keep it on. There is no sign of any hole through the hat on the other side. It is difficult to see in the images, it has a black band around the head with a peak made from felt with the bright tartan top. He has green painted composition hands. The strings are all as he came to me, he was tangled but all strings are original and as he arrived. There is a little rusting to some of the screw eyes. The box is excellent with a large red stamp saying Special, it also has a pencil price top right of 53/9 which was very expensive at the time and cost more than the usual SL type characters. The puppet has come to the shop from the family of one of the brothers who owned him. The Sarah Swede puppet I am showing at the same time has come from a completely different collection and is coincidence the material matches. This is a one off puppet not in production but made to order. (Please ask for any different image views)
