Lulabelle the African dancer measures approx 18" tall. This Lulabelle dates to late 1940's. She is in generally good condition. Her hair is tightly styled and very good, it isn't the rabbit fur hair that is sometimes seen on this puppet. She wears a necklace of square felt pieces which is in good condition. Her 'grass' raffia skirt is dishevelled and could maybe be straightened out for a better look. She carries maracas which are uncrushed and rattle. Lulabelle has very long bamboo limbs and they usualy have paint loss as is the case here. ( paint doesn't adhere well to bamboo ) There is also paint loss to the middle wooden ball as seen. She has good rubber lips with no cracks. Her face paint is very good. She only has one side of feathers, but that one side is in very good condition. She has three strings to nails under the skirt to enable her to swing her hips.
Her brass rings are around her ankles.
The yellow maracas string has been replaced and also the leg string.
The original blue label box with Lulabelle front piece is in fair shelf worn condition with some damage.
